Metalheads Redux

I have had a recycling aesthetic since growing up with a family of survivors from the last Great Depression in the 1930’s. My grandmother would always find creative ways to repair and reuse before anything was replaced. Working in community art programs over the last few years, I have found recyclables to not only be a good cost effective solution to my materials budget but to be stimulating pre-fabricated design elements to build on. I spent this summer teaching an art class at the Community Bicycle Center in Biddeford and had access to a wide variety of bike parts that I have transformed into wearable art. In this collection they are joined by pieces using vintage buttons which honor my roots as a third generation recycler.
