Teeth sink into pure 24 karat gold. Biting is a test of quality leaving behind a trademark of authenticity; chewing is the first step in digestion. To digest is to assimilate, to add to the body, as is to bejewel oneself. This work is a search for authenticity and value in the body through the objects and ideas we attach to it. Each gem starts with a technical drawing by Josh Dallaire printed on plastic then riveted to gold leather. The leather is cut, pierced, burnt, and chewed to fetishistically connect to its bodily origins.
