Their unparalleled beauty, spiritous flight and mysterious life cycle have inspired artists and mankind for centuries around the world.
In the folklore of many cultures, butterflies and moths deliver dreams and guide the soul. The Japanese believe a butterfly flittering into one’s home heralds the visit of a loved one. While many Native American tribes believe that butterflies bring needed sleep and healing dreams.
The butterfly symbolizes the ever-evolving metamorphosis of the human’s spirit into its higher potential. Like the butterfly we start life in one state and are transformed by time, effort and divine grace until we are ready to take flight in a higher state.
Through my pieces, I hope to express not only my love for these remarkable creatures, but also my enthusiasm for the human spirit. Within each “butterfly jewel” there is a naturally-expired butterfly’s wing protected by customized glass, mineral crystal and precious metals. Some pieces are accented with a semi-precious gem to add extra luminosity and an element of playful discovery.
For me, this collection symbolizes the magic of endless possibility and the instant of transformation when something suddenly becomes so much more.
